Lesa Avera Cook
Lesa Cook grew up in South Carolina and received a degree in studio art from the University of South Carolina in 1987. In 1990/91 she pursued graduate work in computer graphics at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She continued her fine art studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art, The Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., The Art League in Alexandria, Virginia and The Shuler School of Art in Baltimore, MD. She continues to pursue her studies and is currently a full time student in The Florence Academy of Art's sculpture program in Florence, Italy.
When not in school, she resides in Burkittsville, Maryland with her husband, where she paints and sculpts. She teaches at The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in Frederick, MD. She is a registered copyist at The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. She considers herself a classical realist, drawing inspiration from the great masters and trying to capture not only the natural form but the emotional reality as well.
